For those of us with young children on their academic journey from grade level to grade level, it can often be hair raising to witness our kiddos as they pull crumpled assignments from the bottom of backpacks, due in the class the next day or frustrating when they can’t seem to remember turning in said assignment when you either watched and or helped support them as they completed it at the kitchen table the night before. And let’s not mention the alerts we get on our phones when our kiddos have missing assignments or a zero as a placeholder in the grade book. This is all compounded by the fact that these same kiddos are in fact identified as gifted and talented. They amaze us daily with their big hearts and even bigger brilliance. It hurts us to see them struggle with what seem like small organizational decisions that are common sense to us as parents, but in fact require structure, guidance, and practice for our students to be successful.
