First and Third Quarter Service Checks

The Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students provides requirements for and guidance to districts as they meet the unique needs of the gifted/talented population. In accordance with the State Plan, elementary campuses in Round Rock ISD perform first and third quarter service checks to ensure we are meeting the educational needs of TAG identified students.

Once students begin receiving content area TAG services with Round Rock ISD, they are not formally retested with the full battery of TAG assessments. If a student is not initially identified for services in a content area, there is a process for adding or adjusting subject areas of service. The campus will use existing data available about the student’s subject area performance and progress as evidence to support any changes to the student’s service plan during these first and third quarter service checks.

The first quarter service checks occur during the month of October and the third quarter service checks take place in March across all elementary campuses. During these months, the campus staff works together to collect and analyze a variety of data points for TAG identified students. If the data indicates a need for any service changes, the content areas are added/removed and notification is sent home to parents/guardians.

Through this cyclical process, the campus staff works together to annually monitor students receiving TAG services. Matching educational interventions to demonstrated student needs is of top priority to all of the professionals working with TAG students – the general education teacher, campus TAG specialist, campus administration, and district staff.

Remember, your best point of contact for information about the Round Rock ISD TAG program, your campus TAG services, and your child’s performance is your campus-specific elementary TAG specialist.
