Every child has unique talents and abilities, and for our gifted and talented (GT) students, these strengths often require specialized support to help them reach their full potential. That’s why we’re excited to celebrate GT Awareness Week, an opportunity to highlight the importance of gifted education and recognize the exceptional learners in our community.
What is GT Awareness Week?
GT Awareness Week happens the first full week of April every year and was created to encourage awareness and support for gifted education in Texas. This year, GT Awareness Week will take place from April 7-11, 2025!
It’s a statewide initiative to increase understanding and advocacy for gifted students. It’s a time to celebrate their unique learning needs, engage families in discussions about gifted education, and provide resources to help parents and educators support these students effectively.
Why GT Awareness Matters
Gifted students think, learn, and experience the world differently. Without the right opportunities, they can become disengaged, under-challenged, or even struggle with social and emotional challenges. GT Awareness Week reminds us of the importance of nurturing these learners by providing enriching academic experiences, fostering creativity, and ensuring they receive the encouragement they need to thrive.
How Round Rock ISD Supports GT Students
At Round Rock ISD, we are committed to meeting the needs of our students identified for gifted services through specialized programs, challenging coursework, and opportunities for advanced learning. Our TAG services are designed to cultivate students’ intellectual curiosity, leadership skills, and problem-solving abilities while fostering a love for learning.
GT Awareness Week is also an excellent time for families to explore the many ways they can support their children’s growth at home. From encouraging inquiry-based learning to seeking out community enrichment opportunities, parents play a vital role in their child’s academic journey.
